Brow lift surgery (sometimes called a forehead lift) can correct these signs of aging and tighten the area for a more youthful, but natural look. In his Richmond office, Dr. Steve Montante lifts the muscles, as well as the skin, so that the results of your brow lift are long-lasting.
The eyebrows and forehead are among the first areas to show signs of aging. These signs are caused by skin changes that happen as we age, the effects of gravity, and sun damage. You might notice that your eyebrows are drooping, for example, or you may have lines on your forehead that are vertical, horizontal, or both.
Dr. Montante has performed numerous successful brow lift procedures in Richmond. People who have had a brow lift feel less self-conscious and find that others tell them they look “more rested.”
A brow lift is often combined with other facial procedures, such as an eyelid lift or facelift. Laser skin resurfacing can also help to further smooth the finer lines and wrinkles on the face.
Steps of a Brow Lift Procedure
A brow lift can reverse or improve the following:
- Drooping or uneven eyebrows
- Horizontal creases on the forehead
- Vertical frown lines between the eyebrows
- Eyebrows that have lost their arch
- Furrows on the bridge of the nose
Dr. Montante will spend time with you during your initial consultation to hear your concerns and goals, as well as answer your questions. He will review your medical history, followed by an examination of your eyebrows and forehead. This will allow him to recommend a surgical plan tailored specifically for you. Note that a brow lift is considered cosmetic and is not covered by insurance in Richmond.
Dr. Montante will advise you of all preparations to take prior to your operation. If you are a smoker, for example, you will need to stop for a period of time before surgery. A brow lift is performed on an outpatient basis using either sedation or general anesthesia. The surgery takes approximately 1 hour.
Types of Brow Lifts
Dr. Montante performs the three brow lift techniques in his Richmond office. He will recommend the one that will provide you with the results you seek.
Conventional Brow Lift – This technique is best for patients with lax skin in the forehead and eyebrow area that cause the skin to droop. The incision along the forehead is hidden by your hair. Excess skin is removed, and the skin and muscles are raised to tighten the area for a natural, more youthful look.
Lateral Brow Lift – This technique works best for patients who have sagging of the tail of the eyebrows, causing a constantly tired look. A lateral brow lift brings the brows back to their original position with their natural peak. The incisions are limited within the hair of the lateral brows. Since this type of sagging often also causes the upper eyelid to droop, this technique is frequently combined with upper eyelid surgery.
Endoscopic Brow Lift – This procedure is less invasive than the previous techniques. It is best for patients whose sagging in the upper face is more a result of lax muscles than skin lines.
It requires just small incisions hidden within the hairline. An endoscope and a fiberoptic camera are used so that Dr. Montante can see the tissue without the need for a larger incision. Some muscle may be removed, as necessary, to lift the eyebrows and eliminate the cause of the sagging.
Recovering from a Brow Lift
Sutures will be removed within about a week, and the scars will remain hidden by your hair.
You should be able to return to work and normal activities, including exercise, within 7-10 days. You will return to our office 2 weeks after your surgery for a follow-up examination. The full results of your brow lift will appear within 2-3 months.
Expect to feel some mild post-operative discomfort, but this can be managed with oral pain medication. Some swelling and bruising are to be expected, but swelling can be reduced with cold compresses and elevating your head during sleep.
