Many patients come to us for recommendations about correcting signs of aging on the face and body. When your concerns include the appearance of wrinkles and sagging skin, our plastic surgeons will typically suggest dermal fillers as a first line of defense.
Our clinicians recommend Radiesse for patients looking to address nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and other wrinkles around the mouth and nose. Shelly Montante, a board-certified nurse practitioner, could also use this dermal filler to treat volume loss in your face and the back of your hands. What Is Radiesse®?
While many dermal fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid, Radiesse is an FDA-approved injectable treatment composed of calcium hydroxyapatite. This compound is made from iron and calcium ions that the body produces. Calcium hydroxyapatite is stronger and more resistant than hyaluronic acid, so we often recommend Radiesse to patients in Richmond seeking more dramatic results.
Like other fillers, Radiesse essentially “fills” areas of the skin that need volume, such as skin folds, fine lines, and wrinkles. It also stimulates collagen production, which allows your skin to appear more youthful and firm. Eventually, your body will break down and absorb the calcium hydroxyapatite. However, the newly built collagen remains in place.
Both men and women who experience signs of aging, including the appearance of wrinkles and sunken features, could benefit from Radiesse fillers. This treatment is typically safe for all skin tones, shades, and types. However, we do not recommend Radiesse for patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
What To Expect From Your Radiesse® Procedure
During your initial consultation, our cosmetic team will work with you to design a treatment strategy that you feel comfortable with for targeting your concerns. Typically, Radiesse treatments do not require anesthesia. However, our clinician may provide a topical anesthetic for your comfort.
Prior to your injection, we will cleanse the target area. Then, a board-certified nurse practitioner will inject the Radiesse under your skin, adding volume to and stimulating collagen production in pre-selected target areas. The injection procedure generally takes less than an hour, depending on the size of your treatment area.
Recovery and Results
A Radiesse dermal injection treatment at our Richmond office requires no downtime or recovery. In most cases, you can immediately return to your day-to-day activities and even schedule a treatment during your lunch break. However, we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise or going out in the sun for at least 24 hours.
The results from a Radiesse treatment are not permanent. Typically, our patients can enjoy their rejuvenated appearance for up to two years. We may recommend maintenance appointments to help preserve your beautiful results.
