Pregnancy and breastfeeding, though miraculous and rewarding, can leave you with a body that looks very different from the one you had before. Your Consultation for a Mommy Makeover
Dr. Montante will spend time with you during your initial consultation to hear your concerns and goals, as well as answer your questions. He will review your medical history, followed by an examination of the areas of your body that concern you. This will allow him to recommend a surgical plan tailored specifically for you.
If you plan to become pregnant again, it is advisable to postpone your Mommy Makeover, as a subsequent pregnancy could reverse the results of surgery.
Dr. Montante will advise you of all preparations to take prior to your operation(s). If you are a smoker, for example, you will need to stop for a period of time before surgery.
Recovering from a Mommy Makeover
Your recovery will vary depending on the procedures you have chosen. If two surgeries can be performed concurrently, your recovery time will be shorter. Please see the pages for the procedures you are interested in for more information about recovery.
What should you expect from a Mommy Makeover?
A Mommy Makeover is different for every woman depending on the procedures you choose. Some surgeries can be done concurrently, while others require healing time in between.
A Tummy Tuck is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat and skin from the abdomen. Many women also experience stretched and separated muscles in this area after childbirth, so the surgery can also tighten these muscles. Liposuction is used to remove fat, and the result is a flatter stomach.
If you only have excess fat with no loosened skin or separated muscles, Liposuction may be sufficient to flatten your stomach or trim other areas, such as the waistline, back, or thighs. In this surgery, small incisions are made in the targeted areas, and the fat is removed through a cannula (tube) that is inserted into the incisions and attached to a vacuum-like device.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding can change the shape of the breasts and cause them to succumb to gravity. A Breast Lift is a surgical procedure that lifts the breasts to their former perky position.
If you wish to lift your breasts while also increasing their size, you can have a Breast Lift/Augmentation combination with your choice of implants.
Many women experience increased breast size as a result of breastfeeding, and the breasts do not return to their former size. In some cases, breast size has always been a problem, causing pain and discomfort in the neck, shoulders, and back. A Breast Reduction allows you to have breasts that are in better proportion to the rest of your body. This surgery alleviates the pain from heavy breasts and is sometimes covered by insurance.
Often, the labia become stretched due to aging or childbirth, causing discomfort. Labiaplasty reduces the size of the labia or reshapes them for both comfort and aesthetics.
Mommy Makeover Frequently Asked Questions
Best candidates include patients who have realistic expectations and are seeking to restore pre-pregnancy body contours by firming up underlying body tissue. Women who need help with breast size and shape, abdominal contour, and have issues with their thighs, hips, and buttocks are good candidates for a mommy makeover.
This period varies with each patient but can take from one to six weeks to resume normal activities. This amount of time depends on the procedures chosen and the extent of work necessary. Some patients heal quicker than others. A tummy tuck requires extensive recovery and will take longer than most procedures to heal.
The cost depends on the extent of the procedure. Since a mommy makeover is a tailored procedure and varies from patient to patient, costs are variable as well. A consultation will provide you with a detailed cost of your individualized mommy makeover.
Combining these procedures will reduce recovery, cost and expedite the process. It is also easier for the patient to have everything done at once instead of multiple procedures and recoveries.
You should wait at least six months before considering a mommy makeover after having a baby. This period will ensure you have stopped breastfeeding and your body has recovered fully from your childbearing.
The best way to answer this question is to assume a tummy tuck as part of the mommy makeover procedure. You should wait at least three weeks before considering exercising. Start slow, with walking and gradually increase your intensity while conferring with Dr. Montante during the process.
You should treat this action just like working out. Carrying a child can cause problems with recovery if done too soon after a mommy makeover. Confer with Dr. Montante during your recovery and listen to his advice to avoid complications which may arise with the various procedures included in your procedure.
