Kybella® – Richmond, VA
Until recently, the only cosmetic procedures that truly improved a double chin were surgical. Now, there is a non-surgical, FDA-approved solution called Kybella® that can reduce the excess fat under the chin (submental fullness) without incisions.
Kybella® is an injectable product made of deoxycholic acid, which is found naturally in the body. The acid dissolves the unwanted fat, restoring a tighter, more youthful profile. You may require 2-6 treatments at 6-week intervals to achieve your desired result. While new fat can accumulate in the area, the fat that has been dissolved does not recur.
Dr. Steven Montante is pleased to offer this treatment for his patients in Richmond. Some patients have other non-surgical treatments to complement Kybella®, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, dermal fillers, or laser procedures.
Your Consultation for Kybella®
Dr. Montante will spend time with you during your initial consultation to hear your concerns and goals, as well as answer your questions. He will review your medical history. Then, he will examine your chin and neck to determine if you are a good candidate for Kybella®.
If so, you can have your Kybella® injections immediately after your consultation. If you have loose skin in this area, however, you may require a facelift or neck lift for optimal results.

What should you expect from Kybella®?
Before and after your treatment, the target area will be numbed with an ice pack to reduce any discomfort. The entire treatment is completed within 20 minutes, allowing you to return to work immediately after. As the deoxycholic acid works to break down the targeted fat, it is gradually removed by the body’s natural metabolic process over several weeks.
Some patients experience temporary redness, warmth, or bruising a few days following the procedure. All patients should experience mild swelling for 3 to 5 days on average, which is a desired response to treatment! With swelling of the tissues, new fibroblasts are formed, leading to collagen formation and tissue tightening. For optimal results a series of 2 to 4 treatments is required, spaced a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks apart.
When Will Results Be Evident?
You can return to work or other normal activities immediately after your Kybella® injections. Within two weeks the treated areas slowly begin to soften, minor bruising resolves, and the fatty tissue thickness gradually begins to reduce. Around four weeks you will start to notice contour improvement. The maximum fat loss occurs between the fourth and eighth week, when the maximum changes in contours are noted.
It will take your body at least 12 weeks to rid itself of the dissolved fat, which means permanent results will continue to appear throughout this period. A patient may feel slight lumpiness in the treated areas due to the body working to elimnate the fat cells. This lumpiness will only be felt and not seen and only occurs within the first 10 weeks before resolving. Deoxycholic acid injections offer a safe, gentle solution to permanently improve unwanted fatty deposits- forever!
