Dryness is not the best attribute for healthy skin. Hydration is necessary if you want to look your best and have soft, even skin tone and texture. No matter the season, delivering the essential nutrients and moisture for beautiful skin glow is critical, whether it’s at home or in a physician’s office. With environmental factors like sun, wind, and pollution working against you, caring for your skin wisely will pay dividends in the weeks, months, and years to come.

Montante Plastic Surgery and Aesthetics offers in-office treatments and skincare products that help our patients keep their skin looking young and fresh. In this article, we offer 10 at-home, natural treatments that will keep your skin moisturized and healthy, even during these uncertain times.

1. Moisturizing Oils

There are various oils we recommend for keeping your skin healthy. Natural oils are preferred, such as jojoba, olive, or coconut. Simply apply over your body or the trouble areas and massage until it fully absorbs. We recommend you leave it on overnight and shower early the next morning for the best results.

2. Moisturize with Honey

Apply organic honey (a natural emollient and humectant) on areas such as the face and arms. Leave it on for about 15 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry.

3. Apply Aloe Vera Gel

Natural aloe vera gel can be obtained by peeling an aloe vera leaf so that it secretes a gel-like liquid. Then extract this gel and apply it on your skin as soon as possible. Allow it to dry for 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

4. Milk

Apply milk or buttermilk generously to the target area. Keep it on for about 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Repeat this twice-weekly before your bath or shower.

5. Avocado

Apply mashed avocado pulp to the skin that is affected and let it sit for ten minutes.  Then wash off with warm water. Repeat this twice weekly. Avocado is chock full of nutrients that help keep your skin healthy and young.

6. Cocoa Butter

Shave off a slice of cocoa butter and rub it gently into your skin. The friction will melt the butter to spread throughout the area. Do this twice weekly to help with moisturizing skin and improving its elasticity.

7. Shea Butter

Apply a small amount of shea butter and rub it between your palms. Apply to the affected area, massaging for a few minutes until it absorbs fully. Do this every night before bedtime to expose your skin to the butter’s anti-aging properties.

8. Mango Butter

Massage this butter throughout the skin and leave it on. Use daily to help your skin with its rich antioxidant properties.

9. Cucumber Juice

Take a large peeled cucumber, remove the seeds and liquify the cucumber flesh into a puree. Heat eight ounces of paraffin wax in the microwave for a minute and a half. Add several drops almond oil to the wax and cucumber puree and mix thoroughly. Massage this into the skin every night at bedtime to hydrate and replenish skin nutrients.

10. Beeswax

Combine one cup of olive oil, ½ cup coconut oil, and 2 oz of beeswax in a glass container. Heat over the stove until the ingredients are mixed thoroughly, then allow it to cool. Before the mixture solidifies, add vitamin E oil from five capsules. Apply this lotion on the treatment site and massage well. Leave on the skin overnight. Use every other day.
